Immigration

We are a stronger and more vibrant nation because of our immigrant communities. John believes that we must pass comprehensive immigration reform that upholds current laws while also providing a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants.

John supports common sense policies that protect our borders and enforce laws that prohibit the hiring and exploitation of undocumented workers. John supports a path to legal status that includes paying back-taxes and penalties. Bringing undocumented immigrants out of the shadows will provide an immediate boost to our economy and establishes the critical trust between migrant communities and law enforcement that promotes public safety.

John does not support building a border wall with Mexico, nor does he support implementing a border adjustment tax. A border wall would be extremely expensive, and it would not address the tens of millions of people who enter the country legally but overstay their visas. A border adjustment tax on imported products would force retailers to pay more for all imported goods, the cost of which will be passed onto consumers.

John does not support the use of religious tests to allow entry into the United States. The recent Executive Orders banning refugees and visitors from select majority-Muslim countries are unconstitutional and against the freedom and diversity we celebrate as Americans.

We can continue to uphold our current laws, protect our borders, and thoroughly vet refugees coming into our country without shutting down our borders and separating families through mass-deportations.
